When sharing war memes is a national duty

I remember the first time I laughed after October 7th.

It was October 9th, and we were all still shellshocked, frantically searching for missing friends, when a news clip came across my social media feed. It was a classic man-on-the-street bystander interview, wife beater and all. The frantic Israeli was telling the reporter that he saw some people in uniform and thought they were soldiers, so he wished them good luck, and they responded by opening fire on him. Perhaps you had to be there (hopefully you weren’t), but every Israeli knows the brief momentary relief when you can laugh during times of terror.

I’m very proud to make my debut in the National Review today with a piece about how Israelis are using humor to cope in this war. I can’t post the whole thing here because I want them to like me, but i’ll do you one better by adding all my favorite funny moments from this war below.
